Valzhyna Mort is the author of three poetry collections, most recently: Music for the Dead and Resurrected (FSG 2020), named one of the best poetry books of 2020 by The New York Times, and the winner of the International Griffin Poetry Prize and the UNT Rilke Prize. Her earlier collections of poetry are Factory of Tears and Collected Body, both published by Copper Canyon Press. Mort is a recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Academy in Rome, the Lannan Foundation, Civitella Ranieri, and the Amy Clampitt Foundation along with several European awards and fellowships including the Crystal of Vilenitsa award (Slovenia), the Burda Prize for Eastern European authors (Germany), and the N.C. Kaser Prize (South Tyrol). She has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant for her translation work on Polina Barskova’s Air Raid. Her translation, together with Hanif Abdurraqib, of Motherfield by Julia Cimafiejeva, was longlisted for the PEN Translation Prize and The Derek Walcott Prize. Born and raised in Minsk, Belarus, Mort directs the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Cornell University and writes in English and Belarusian.
