About us
The Manchester Translation Series was founded in 2022 as an annual event celebrating World Poetry Day (21st of March). The creator of the series, Dr Brian Sneeden, decided to focus on an often-overlooked aspect of poetry (and literature in general): translated poetry.
“If we removed all translated works from a library, would we still have a library? Translation does not just bring important works into a language; it changes language and literature.”
– Dr Brian Sneeden
The series is held in Manchester, a UNESCO City of Literature known for its cultural and linguistic diversity. The event brings together internationally renowned poets and translators who engage in meaningful conversations about the importance of translated poetry in today’s geopolitical environment.
